CBSE BOARDS PREPARATION
It's already June..parents are eagerly preparing their children to crack the boards with an awesome score and students are caught in the vicious circle of preparation.Having seen and been through the struggle,I decided to put up this blog
For Students..
- Start early so that you'll know well ahead what to do and whatnot to.If you are reading this not at the start..Man!,it's completely fine!..just be smart and do what is to be done, don't panic on what can't be undone.
Don't keep comparing your scores with your friends.I had this highly hideous habit of hiding my scores by stuffing it inside my bag as soon as I got my report card.I wanted it to be a secret(just known to my teachers, parents and of course me!).That attitude of mine was because of the fact that I was always comparing my results with that of my friends. It eventually took me a while to understand that my intermediate results don't matter.Don't shy away with your scores, talk to your friends and teachers and understand what mistakes you have done.
- DREAM BIG!..Now that gets a bit philosophical..but it definitely helps.Every night, plan ahead and every morning wake up afresh and ask yourself to stay positive and do what you want to.
- Plan ahead and make a brief shedule each night and every weekend mentioning what to be done the following week/following day.Just mention the topics and not the timings because it might lead to unnecessary tension. For example,if you've planned to learn alkyl and ary halides, alcohols and ethers and electromagnetic waves in a week.Split the target so that you could fit in the portions on each day.Review the topics learnt ,the next weekend and make a note of hard questions and concepts which you couldn't put in your mind.
- Aim for the sky to reach atleast the treetop !!Think of a super awesome score and make yourself prepared for that score.Eventually, even if you are having the worst kind of luck that day, you'll end up scoring decent marks.
- Practice makes a man perfect Yup!it does.Practice quite a few sample papers once you've gone through all the topics thoroughly.Remember that, start doing the papers only after you are done with the preparation part.If not, just have a look at the papers and tell the answers out aloud because you aren't left with enough time for both preparation and practice.
- You don't have to attend all the classes!Man!..You read it right. If you feel you are a self learner, bunk classes, learn at home,be sincere and make it thorough.Otherwise,if you feel you aren't a sincere kid at home and if you couldn't learn at your own,go to classes, attend lectures, take notes, speak to teachers, get it done.Don't follow someone because they score well, find out your way of learning and do it that way.'How do I know my way of study?'..Is that your question?Try doing this..After completion of syllabus, try a day at home and another at school, find out where you are more productive and get ahead.
- 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'..Always,spare some time to do what you like doing.Be it gardening, cleaning your room, painting, playing cricket or watching cartoons..Have fun at the end of your study session by giving yourself a break and doing things which you love doing. This makes you more productive.
- Your everyday routine: Everyone is unique and each person has a different style of learning. What one could do,the other can't and what the other could do,this one couldn't.If you are an early bird, start early and revise formula, sleep early and make yourself afresh in the morning.Make sure you sleep for atleast 7 hours a day.Don't overstrain yourself. You have a significant portion of your life to be lived only after the boards. So don't burn yourself.Just do what is necessary.
Speak to yourself..
Yeah!..You should speak to yourself..not just for acing examination but rather in your whole life..Every morning, encourage yourself to do what you've planned to do and while going to sleep, think about the dream score which you want to acheive.
Speak to your parents and well wishers
Speak to your parents and well wishers to understand your current situation more intensely.Don't get moody when you reach home from the exhaustion of work..Just go ahead and speak to your family cheerfully.
Never ever mug it up!
No!..that's completely not to be done, especially in cbse boards.Learn as much as you can and never let go of your conceptual clarity.Eventually, the ones who have greater conceptual clarity end up scoring better than the ones who've spent a lot of slogging hours for mugging up.
It's important that you should encourage your child throughout the phase of
For parents..
preparation but it becomes crucial to know how to encourage.
Never compare your child with others:
Never ever compare the scores of another person with that of your child. This will eventually seed jealousy in the minds of your child and his/her character might be affected.Also,he/she might become under confident and lose the desire to acheive.
Stay strong when your child fails
When your child fails an examination or fails to acheive a good score in the examination..don't panic and scold your kid.Rather, follow what I've mentioned below.
If your child aldready feels bad for his/her score:
Make him/her normal by not reacting much but rather asking him to understand that his final scores will be better if he tries to analyse his mistakes.Encourage him and ask him to analyse his mistakes.
If your child isn't the worrying kind and takes the results casually:
Again, don't become angry upon your child. There are some kind of people, who don't show their emotions out.If your child is aldready in the process of increasing his study hours/following a changed study pattern etc..it means that he has started to correct his mistakes..In this case, leave him the way he is..he doesn't like you to interfer in his studies. There is nothing to feel bad about this.
If your child hasn't showed any change after the result and if he has neither worried, you've got to get into his track.Speak to him and understand what's wrong with him..Even if it's the worst kind of mistake or even if he says he had lost interest in studies, don't panic..Rather,tell him, where studying sincerely can get him in life.Get a video series or subscribe to learning channels in tv.If he could draw well, ask him to make mindmaps.Make him learn the way he likes. For example,if your child loves singing, ask her to make a song out of her lesson..Now again, don't panic because the topper kid isn't doing it that way..Your kid is unique and special. If your child doesn't have any interest in studies,it's probably because he loves one group and you've chosen another.Speak to him/her about it.If he/she loves some other group better and if it's still possible to switch groups..talk to his teachers and take all initiative to switch the group even if it means change of school, otherwise, try searching for the options through which he can link say, computerscience with his heart throb biology. There's always a job which links the two fields.Encourage him to follow that way.
Now,an individual can think big of himself. As parents,it is important to understand the true potential of your child.
Understand what your child is..
If you think your child is capable of scoring 450/500 ;encourage him to score 475,ask him to work for it.Even if your child dreams big and tells you that he could definitely score 475,you should understand what he is capable of.Now,am saying this because the final results shouldn't leave you disheartened.Encourage your child to dream big, sincerely wish that he should get what he wants but don't over estimate. If your child ends up scoring 455 or 460,feel happy for him. This comes only with a great deal of maturity and understanding.Never let out your estimate of your child to him or anyone.
Never let go of his character..
Don't wrongly encourage your child to refrain from helping others, but, you should ask him to stop helping 3 days before examination,so that,he could devote his time for self study and analysis.
Don't encourage him to follow any bad habits, even if it means more marks.
Take your child out whenever you think he needs an outdoor trip
Take him outdoors, ask him to go for a walk or ask him to spend some time to play out with his friends everyday. When you could handle your child in a matured manner,he'll understand what he should and what he shouldn't.
Healthy food
Never compromise the health of your kid for better results.Make sure that he sleeps and eats enough.Cook healthy food for him and ask him/her to refrain from eating outside foods atleast two months prior to his boards.
Take part in his success and failures and ask him to treat both by being himself.Give him some free space, ask him to maintain a private journal and give him some liberty.Don't give him too much liberty at the same time.
Parenthood is an art.Am not old enough to teach it but I've given you the way a parent could encourage a child during exams.
